Changing the Career Search

LinkedIN, founded in late 2002, is changing the way professionals network and search for jobs by creating a social network devoted entirely to helping professionals further their careers.  LinkedIN has helped grow business connections and make the transition from paper resumes and newspaper job listings to online profiles and job searches.

LinkedIN has helped to eliminate the hassle of searching through the newspaper for job listings.  Instead, job seekers can now search through thousands of online postings by keyword, company, location, and a variety of other filters.  This allows applicants easily narrow down the listings to a few that interest them and also to apply for jobs in other areas of the country.  Furthermore, rather than having to mail in paper copies of a resume, users can apply for the job within the site simply by giving the employer a link to their profile.  Many users also have recommendations on their profile, eliminating the need for employers to have to call people from a list of references.

LinkedIN has also helped to make great advances in the area of professional networking.  Users are able to see who they know that is connected to a top executive in a certain company and can even ask for an introduction through the site.  Users are also able to search for people who work in certain companies, industries, or locations to help foster new business relationships.  LinkedIN also helps a user to track their own personal network so that they do not lose track of friends and colleauges when they move on to a new job.
